A brief update about what is going on here at the farm. The wet winter, followed by an eight-week drought, followed by 3 1/2″ of rain and now we are getting dry again. Some folks blame it on the prolonged global volcano activity. Heck, yesterday it was snowing in Salt Lake and blazing heat in the NYC. Farming in Texas is what I call it! In any event, all is growing well here at the farm. The nighttime temps are still below 70F, which is helpful, if not necessary, for some of crops to germinate properly. I have downloaded some photos of what is growing on the farm via our Farm Journal. We are still holding our breath with the broccoli and cauliflower. The broccoli is heading out and we will hopefully have some in your shares next week. I cannot see any heads in the cauliflower, but we are keeping it watered well. Perhaps it will start developing heads next week? We have a few small green tomatoes on the plants and most of the plants are looking good after some of them having too much rain a week or so back. We have had a little insect damage, but that´s par for the course. We also have a few cantaloupes about the size of a tennis ball. Hopefully all of these will continue to develop nicely. Partial shares did not get any salad mix this week as the lettuce was just too small. Hopefully this will not be the norm though.
As you may know, we have hosted two farm dinners over the past several weeks. They both were outstanding. (photos on our website and on Face Book) Our guest chef at our first dinner was Drew Wilson. Chef Jon Buchanan headed the second dinner culinary team. We also had a very nice open house last weekend. Guests were able to see first hand what was growing here at the farm. Seems like the "little guests" really enjoyed the hay ride being drawn by the tractor. A few strawberries were picked as well. For those of you that missed this events, but would like to visit the farm we have decided to host another event in honor of Father´s Day. We are calling it "Celebrate Dad" out at the Farm on Saturday Evening, June 19th… Different from our other Farm Dinners, this will be a family outing combined with an "ol´ Georgia style pig-pick´n." There will be lots of "Kodak Moments" with a hayride, face painting, the farm tour and more. The combination of great food, new acquaintances and a beautiful outdoor setting will create fond memories for this unique Father´s Day experience. Adults $35 Kids 5-13 $15 For more info visit our website at www.woodduckfarm.com or contact me at (713) 876-8645. Tickets can be purchased through our website using PayPal.
All the best,
