Subscribe in advance to ten weeks of fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables from Wood Duck Farm, nestled in the Sam Houston National Forest north of Houston. Three choices are currently offered: a weekly Full Share, a weekly Partial Share, and a Full Share every other week (Alternate Week Full Share). An example Full Share is shown in the image at the right; Partial Shares typically include the same items, but about a third less.
Our farm grows several produce varieties and will strive to give members the best quality produce possible. CSA members will receive at least 5 to 8 different types of vegetables, fruits, and herbs each week during the CSA growing seasons. The amount and selection of produce in each share is largely dependent on what our soil yields, and will vary from week to week. Your diet will reflect the season and the land.
Given the prospect of adverse weather and crop failures, we may from time to time supplement member shares with local produce sustainably grown within 180 miles of our farm. Examples include Ruby Red grapefruit, East Texas blueberries, and satsuma oranges.
| For our Winter CSA we are planting varieties such as: | |||
| arugula | cauliflower | mustard greens | sweet turnips |
| brussels sprouts | onions | salad mix | butternut squash |
| beets | cilantro | radishes | strawberries |
| radicchio |
purple kohlrabi | spinach | collards |
| broccoli | curly kale | onions | bok choy (pac choi) |
| carrots | micro greens | potatoes | |
Our Winter CSA will run for ten weeks. Once the harvest begins, members will pick up their produce at various distribution points located in and around Houston. (Please view the Pick-Up Locations page for delivery times and days near you.) Shares not retrieved during pick-up hours will be donated.
Concerned about forgetting? Not to worry; we’ll remind you via email. In fact, when joining Wood Duck Farm’s CSA program you agree to read our email communications as soon as you see them—we don’t want you to miss receiving your share!
Pick-up locations are at businesses and private residences throughout the Houston area. To retrieve your share, first find your name on the pick-up list and write your initial along side it. (If you do not find your name, we have not packed a share for you; please contact us so we can address the problem.) Note the type of share you have ordered, then select a box labelled with a “P” (for Partial Share) or “F” (for Full Share). Place your share in the bag, box, cooler, or crate you brought, then break down the box and stack it adjacent to the boxed shares. The boxes will be used for delivery again. If you take a box home, please return it to your pick-up point the next week.
Out of courtesy to our wonderful hosts, please keep to the designated pickup times. Shares not retrieved during pickup hours will be donated.
Winter CSA prices are $330 for a Full Share ($33/week) and $240 ($24/week) for a partial share delivered weekly over the ten-week program.
Our Alternate Week Full Share allows customers to skip every other week, providing shares over six alternating weeks for $180 ($36 every other week). Pickup weeks are the weeks of Jan. 30, Feb. 13, Feb. 27, Mar. 12, and Mar. 26.
If there are shares remaining, prices will be prorated for those joining the CSA once the ten-week season has begun. Orders received after Monday will be delivered the following week. Please give us a call if you have questions about your order.
Those participating in the CSA program agree to open and read all e-mail communications from us as soon as they are noticed. Communications will include information regarding CSA start dates, pick-up reminders, special events, share instructions, and information regarding changes or delays in deliveries due to traffic, inclement weather, holidays, or changes in pick-up location.
